cPCI

The cPCI standard for PCI-based industrial computers is called CompactPCI. It is electrically a superset of desktop PCI with a different physical form factor. CompactPCI utilizes the Eurocard form factor popularized by the VME bus. CompactPCI is rapidly emerging as a popular and readily accepted high performance industrial bus architecture. It combines the rugged and robust form factor of the modular Eurocard packaging, popularized by the 3U & 6U VME Bus, with the high speed and rich features of the desktop PCI electrical specifications. CompactPCI boards use high quality 2mm metric pin-and-socket connectors meeting IEC and Bellcore Standards. These boards are inserted directly into the front of the chassis and I/O connections can be easily routed to the rear of the chassis via plug-in rear panel transition modules. Extreme bandwidth performance, rugged and modular Eurocard packaging and open software support makes CompactPCI an ideal platform for Telecommunications, Data Communications, Imaging, Medical, Industrial Control and Automation applications
